Trust your gut. Just fucking trust your gut.

I sat down to write the 2nd Act of the ” Are we in Ancient Rome” series and saw this passage sitting in my drafts. I started and never finished it eleven months ago.

January 2020 –“What do you do with yourself when you’ve emerged from crisis mode to normal? I can create crises, but I’ve no mind for drama. I can look around me and find some social injustice. There is a lot of that going around. That would be super, low hanging fruit. I could find a local cause or I could attach myself to a global cause or I COULD BE STILL. Or I could not write about this because it’s boring and nobody cares, but it may be a good idea to think about stillness.”

Wow. At the time, I had no idea forced stillness on a global scale loomed on the horizon and social injustice would jet from literal obscurity (nobody cares) to the fully recognized problem of the century. But maybe I did, since I’m beginning to seriously believe I’m a witch. I’ve re-read my words and the profundity.

I feel like we are living and breathing a compendium of every dystopian novel we have ever read right now. What’s happening is the prescription for the end of the world as we know it. Throw a rock and you’ll hit a novel that fits the bill.

Chose a narrative! Aliens invade the planet, we are shocked, we hunker down, we hide, we go into holes and the smart humans are over there somewhere in laboratories developing a way to save us all.

Of course, the antagonist is some deranged male making it worse because no one is sucking his dick anymore. Well, a few remain on the knob, but they don’t have any teeth, and have flies on their heads and makeup dripping off their faces while standing in landscaping company parking lots.

And we wait. Wringing our hands. Hoping our part of the world will open back up. Hoping the world will go back to normal. Resisting our reality by desperately jumping back to status quo and then the inevitable happens and the western world is forced to slow down again.

Here we are saddled with more unwanted moments of stillness. Unwanted, yes. Unneeded, no.

Oh, I understand that there are tons of people mired in the hustle, especially healthcare workers, but what I also understand is there are tons of people who are questioning why we hustle? Especially after experiencing a few months of stillness and reflection.

Shall we look to the East? Yes, yes we should. There is a stark contrast between how the East and the West is coping with COVID-19.

Play with the slider..east, west, east, west or vice versa, west, east, west, east

I’m going to side-eye the ridiculously deep trench (like Marianas deep) of individualism and self-reliance that is ingrained in our society. Ralph Waldo Emerson did a number on the American psyche with his little essay.

The foolhardy “Me, Me, Me” movement has boomeranged back and slapped the shit out of us. Couple that with the entitled, capitalistic top 1% and KAPOW, look where we are now? We got our asses handed to us and we are the world’s embarrassment.

What happens when the majority are employed by the 1%? This. This is what happens.

Oh, I know that the top 1% holds 44% of the world’s wealth and this isn’t solely a North American issue, but I also know it’s particularly offensive here because people are brainwashed to believe that universal basic income, higher education and healthcare are not rights, but luxuries. Individualism is God and Socialism is the Devil.

In the East, Collectivism and Socialism are the beloved polytheists and there is no devil. Well, there are some prankster Gods, but that’s for another post.

Is anyone watching the absurdity of live, network TV? The machine churns away and all the bells and whistles and glitz are there, but there is sadness in the entertainer’s eyes. They are playing to an empty audience and it’s all sad, hollow propaganda weakly boosting the idea that all is well. Nobody believes it and people are waking up from the deep slumber of complacency.

Being Still

Is the pandemic the thing we needed? Did we need this punch in the gut moment in order to be still and take a collective look at ourselves through the lens of how the rest of the world sees us?

Shall we move towards each other?

Will the choices we make moving forward enlarge us or diminish us?

Will we do better?

Will we see the merits of common goals?

Will we see outside ourselves?

Will we humble and see there is immense power in the greater good?

This witch predicts that the stillness of 2020/2021 and Gen Z will eventually put us on the path to letting go our highly, self-individuated society,

.For now, it’s time to put the vaccines in the people.

Trust your intuition (gut) and tell me your thoughts? I’m curious.

  1. It’s funny that you mention dystopias and you say, “we hunker down, we hide, we go into holes and the smart humans are over there somewhere in laboratories developing a way to save us all. Of course, the antagonist is some deranged male making it worse because no one is sucking his dick anymore.”

I just watched The Night of the Comet a month and some ago. In that movie, the scientists have gone into a government bunker and are trying to find a way to save humanity after the tail of a comet wipes most of it out and leaves a good part of the rest in a zombie-like state. But in this case, it’s a deranged female in the role of antagonist. I don’t know if she has a dick or not — it wasn’t that kind of movie — but she’s acting from the inside as one of the scientists to subvert the mission. She wants to let the remaining civilian population be overtaken by the zombies for some nefarious purpose of her own.
